I once saw a movie starring Nick Stahl and Mel Gibson. It opened with a dream sequence narrated by Nick Stahl, and it was about him. He said during and after the dream that "it was a good dream."

I'm no expert on my own dreams let alone anyone else's. But last night I had a good dream. Every now and then a poem, a short story or a dream will come out of me reflecting something positive about my past. Sometimes it feels like the negative parts of my past are being overwritten with new, positive images and ideas. Have I forgotten the past? No, but it's easier to look at certain aspects in a nicer light. It's not denial at all.

In the dream, I went back in time (poof!) to see my younger self and the childhood friend that I was in the rotten relationship with. This relationship had some positive parts to it. It was certainly better hanging around with him than being at my house. In the dream, I was at times guiding my knucklehead younger self, trying to give him some direction that would help him relationally. I was also talking with the kid I knew (not the younger me), trying to comfort him. I even gave him a hug in the dream. I remember before waking up I was trying to give the other kid my current address, and to keep it so that when he was older he could get in touch with me. Then..I woke up.

It was a good dream. It really was.

I can only guess it's a reflection of my current feelings toward these matters. Truth is, I would like to get in touch with that guy and just talk with him. I honestly don't know if he is even alive. Currently I am working at getting to the heart of another issue related to someone else.

Thoughts are welcome.

Andy,

It sounds as if you are making some good progress. I hope you are able to reconnect with little Andy on a more regular basis. I know that both of you would benefit greatly if you were able to establish that relationship! I hope that both of you have a wonderful 2007!

Recovery is Possible!

Brian
