I was watching an Oprah about african girls who are being raped. Oprah had some insightful things to say. Her words are very powerful..as she is a great example of a survivor of sexual abuse.

"What happened to you in your past does not make your future"

"You can take that pain and you can turn it into power"

"Because of your pain and because of your struggle means you understand other people who are in pain and have struggled" ( on this one I would like to add ...and you can make a difference/change the world/change lives)

She is so right! What she's saying is basically that we need to realize that we are not empowered until we can get out of the past and work on who we are and how we feel right now, in the present. We can't change what happened in the past, but we CAN change how we react to those things now and in the future.
