Info on a Support Group in NC
It seems I might have found a support group for male survivors in NC not too far from me at last.
But after all this time looking I'm a bit uncertain about going for some different reasons.
The contact person who facilitates the group, which has been meeting 2-3 years, seemed concerned
& nice, and we talked on the phone a while. Even offered to have me call him some if I decided I couldn't come to the group.
That's one of the problems. It's in Raleigh, tho fortunately on the lower end, toward where I live, near NC State where one daughter attends. Still a good hour and a half or so drive, if traffic & weather are good.
Doesn't sound too far; but if you have fibro...
It's not too far, if it's worth going to. No doubt the only way I can know for sure is to check it out for myself. But I am kinda wondering if any of you might know anything about this group or the facilitator, so that you could give me advance warning or encouragement or whatever.
The contact person/facilitator's name is Charles Fisher, of the Men's Center of Raleigh. He said its not a 12 step group, which is fine, tho that is the only kind of live support group I've been to, & that may be part of my uncertainty.
Charles says he has worked with Mike Lew (author of "Victims No Longer" and "Leap Upon the Mountains")at his retreats. He also knows of MS and knows Dale English, who will be one of the facilitators at the MS retreat in FL this year.
If anyone knows anything about Charles or this group please let me know. They meet every couple of weeks on Saturday mornings but are planning to switchh to an evening probably Thursday. Both will be tough for me at such a distance. I want it to be worth my while.
There is a meeting this Saturday & I'm thinking of going...
Thanks.
Victor
