We struggle with how as children we could "let" these things happen to us, even blame ourselves. Well I found these recent articles about sexual abuse claims by Chicago Blackhawk players against a coach really eye opening. Pro hockey players are some toughest guys yet addressing sexual abuse claims even they have trouble.

That is so true. In fact I would say that self-blame, shame and guilt - my biggest core struggles. I definitely buy into the “tough guy” fantasy where I tell myself if I were a lot more “classically masculine” my problems in life would be over, because I wouldn’t be afraid any more. And I blame myself for not standing up to abuse that started at about age 2.

For me I'm lucky in that I do not have self blame because I was so young. However the shame, guilt, humiliation are overwhelming.
