I am a rock

I was driving around the other day, and listening to an "oldies" station on my car radio. (It is always depressing when they call a song that was popular when I was in high school an "oldie.") They played "I am a rock" by Simon & Garfunkle. There is one line, "A rock feels no pain, and an island never cries" sounds like what my life was like during the abuse. Even now, too, at times.

Scott,

Believe me, I know how you feel. I'm STILL in the "island" mode... I feel no pain, and I NEVER cry (at least not that I allow anyone to see). It's safer for me to be "rigid and unemotional" than to expose myself. Say it with me now..."I will NOT be vulnerable.... I will NOT be vulnerable... I will NOT be vulnerable..."

I know it's not technically a "song" (though the music in it definitely affected the mood), but I just saw The Truman Show the other night. And I was affected more deeply than before by the message (stop reading now, if you don't want spoilers to this great movie):

Truman has been manipulated all his life, with his "teachers" trying to wipe out his inquisitiveness to the "outside world" of his small town life. Had messages of fear placed throughout his life, in order to limit his choices. And had it all lorded over him by a director who claims to know more about him than he knows himself.

But once Truman recognizes the truth, nothing can stop him! The director (a complete hypocrite who guards his own privacy jealously, while putting one poor sap's whole life on display without his knowledge) goes out of his way to snuff out the spirit of this man, never realizing just how special that man happened to be.

Truman takes control of his own life, and leaves the confines of the prison that was built for him!

Man, I love this movie!

It's been a source of inspiration in my weak moments.

If you haven't seen it, I'm sorry I ruined it.

Take care!

Also contained within the same song (The Boxer) is the lyric

"Just a come along from the whores on seventh avenue. I do declare there were times that i was so lonesome i took some comfort there"

A great song with some bad memories as is "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band".

And all that was left was hope.

Apologies my head was in another dimension of course it was "I Am A Rock"

Could we keep the references to Gary Glitter, Jonathan King, Chris Denning and Rob Randall to the minimum. Those names give me horrendous flashbacks.

And all that was left was hope.
