dude, that was a little eery for me, we both speak the same language and use the same phrases, must be a california thing.
Uhm, just so you know, yeah, you were abused, and it was horrible and she was wrong to do all those things to you, just keep talking and let it come out at its own pace, it is ready to come out and this is a good place for that.
I remember reading the abbreviated abstract of your story a week or two ago, but this full-length version is incredible. You did a masterful job getting this down in print, and I could feel all kinds of emotions as I read it, which, in itself, is a testament to your writing ability.
Given the dysfunction (an understatement!) and craziness with which you had to deal on a daily basis, I am totally impressed with your ability to make it in the world. In the game of life, you were dealt a really bad hand, my friend. That you have survived and are able to talk about it is, in itself, a miracle.
I found your story - as heartbreaking as it is - to be one of triumph. I can tell that you have done a lot of hard work to get to this place in your recovery, and I want you to know that it is truly inspiring to me personally. Thank you for your honesty, for your ability to convey so many powerful feelings, and for giving me and others real hope in our healing process.
Don, thanks for your words. I cried when i read them. For some reason, I need to hear what reality is from the mouth of someone else. I need the validation. I also needed to hear that I've done ok. In my case I carry a great deal of survivor's guilt. Thanks as well for your recognition of the time I put into my story, it was extremely important to me that it be as REAL as I could possibly make it for the reader, and for myself.
My experience has generally been that whenever we're reporting events in our lives - particularly painful ones - we are only able to capture or remember a fraction of what really happened. This is one reason why I found your story to be so powerful.
I just want you to know that you are doing better than "okay!" When you stand back from the experiences and realize the tremendous courage it took just to bring all of these painful and crazy memories to the surface and shine the light on them, well, let me tell you....you're gonna make it my friend. (Check that...you ARE making it!)
I know that you probably did not write your story for this reason, but I want to encourage you to continue writing. Have you ever thought of writing a longer article...or a book? There can be tremendous healing by expressing one's experiences in writing, and, of course, others benefit and gain strength from stories of hope and triumph.
One of the wonderful things that I have gotten from this web site is a real look at the miracle of the human spirit to endure and cope with the unthinkable and the unspeakable and to learn that we are not really alone, even if we spent a lifetime thinking we were.
thanks for your postings. it is a powerful story on the strength of the human spirit. we are nearly neighbors, as I work in Martinez and live in Benicia. If you ever want to talk: [email protected] (pondboy)
