I really like this song. It was writen for John Rich's sister who was in an abusive marrage and she got out.

"Holy Water"

Somewhere there's a stolen halo
I use to watch her wear it well
Everything would shine wherever she would go
But looking at her now you'd never tell

Someone ran away with her innocence
A memory she can't get out of her head
I can only imagine what she's feeling
When she's praying
Kneeling at the edge of her bed

And she says take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water
Holy water

She wants someone to call her angel
Someone to put the light back in her eyes
She's looking through the faces
The unfamiliar places
She needs someone to hear her when she crys

And she says take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water
Holy water

She just needs a little help
To wash away the pain she's felt
She wants to feel the healing hands
Of someone who understands

And she says take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me
And she says take me away
And take me farther
Surround me now
And hold, hold, hold me like holy water
Holy water

This song makes me teary eyed every time I hear it. This song really speaks to me, and is the reason I bought the wonderful disc, Horse of A Different Color.

I heard this song really for the first time over new years a friend was playing this CD and when I really listened to the words I started crying it made think of all the abused children (and us adult survivors out their) as well as my girlfriend who has been through some real bad marriage situations in her past.

And the fact that the two religous poems that carried me through last two years of therapy are the serenity prayer and the foot prints in the sand poem. these words just hit me hard i guess because

I want to help my girlfriend and take her farther than any of her past husbands were able to and she helped me find my way back to church and find faith again.

I think it also works for women who have been sexually assaulted, because I thought they were sort of speaking to me when they were singing
