Hi Guys,

Its been a while since I posted and here, sorry to have been away. Glad to be back though.

I have a situation, sort of a friend of a friend thing and was wondering if you might give me some advice and/or ideas. I know you have always been good about this in the past.

Here goes.

This friend of a friend is a young man living in the US who has been SA'd his whole life by members of his family. He is still in a situation where he is being SA'd and can't really escape due to lack of money, no job, or skills etc... Also is depressed and suicidal. A good kid with a lot of hurt in a bad situation.

What I was wondering is if there is anyplace he could go. I'm not too current on this type of thing but isn't there a boystown USA or Covenant house for young men? Where would one go to get out of such a situation?

Would there be any other reccomendations you could give?

He doesn't know that I'm asking this or that I even really know cause its through another friend. So its all really hypothetical.

Just looking for some thoughts.

Thanks my brothers and take gentle care,

Aaron

If he is of high school age, then GirlsandBoys town is a good place. It is in Omaha Nebraska.

There are Covenant houses all over the USA. The big one is in NY City. If he is a minor he can just show up there and they will care for him for a while and help him get the help he needs.

There are also some places called Youth Village. I am not sure where they are, but they are also a place where he could go.

Of course, if he is a minor, any place he goes will have to report the abuse. But, at least he would be away from the perps and therefore fairly safe.

Childrens Village in Dobbs Ferry NY might also be a possibility. I am not sure tho, that might be for resident of NY only.

I think Covenant house has the 1 800-999-9999 as a phone number. Why not give them a call.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that he is over 18.

Thanks,

Aaron,

Your friend's friend might try calling the National Sexual Assault Hotline 1-800-656-HOPE, which is (I think) operated by RAINN.org. The hotline is available 24/7. I have never searched the RAINN site, but a number of members here have recommended it.

Martin - Although I work with kids & teens, I might suggest (off the top of my head) contacting the local Mental Health/Mental Retardation Council in your County; or the Network of Victim's Assistance (NOVA) in your locale; for starters. I'll think some more!

You say he can not leave the situation due to lack of money, job skills. That would make me think that he is above age of 18. I would think there must be some shelter place that he can go to for help, but truly, I do not know completely, to be honest. I just wish you and him luck, and I hope that he is somewhere safe soon. I wish I can help more.
