I have been working with an EMDR therapist, but the cost is getting to be too much for our family since she dropped our insurance carrier. I am looking into alternatives. I contacted this local certified art therapist, as I know I have the aptitude and interest in it. I have done a lot of reading on it already.

PLEASE....tell me....who has done this? Who has, or is going through, art therapy?
What is it like? Do you turn into a "freak" just because you start doing art?

I do not know anything about art therapy but I do know you are not a freak. So stop thinking that way ok.

HI fhorn,
I have done art therapy. I did a theatre work shop where I was allowed to experience some deep emotions and thus get in touch with mine and release them.

I also find painting a good therapy, as well as dance. When I can just express what ever I am feeling. And once I have expressed to my hearts content I feel healed as I feel Universe has heard me.

SO try Art therapy by all means but choose your way of expression that is unique to your soul. The way you are most comfortable. For me its writing, so I just write, write and write it all out. And yes it is creative, it is fun and fulfilling.

And when I am feeling really good or really bad I COOK! It relaxes me, soothes me and nourishes me both emotionally and literally.

;)

Thanks for the simple reminders. I'm so excited about it, and we should have our first session pretty soon!

Well not exactly, but I view working on the car I am fixing up therapy. Fixing stuff feels good. It helps me to have time by myself working on something that I can see progress, if ever so slowly.

I also enjoy shooting. The focus on doing every thing right removes me from my problems for a while.

Hey guys,
I've been reading a book called "From Crisis to Creativity" where it claims that being creative is so true to our inward being when we have been hurt or put under pressure. We have to let out our "solutions" in whatever medium we bend towards. I tried machines, but it was not colorful enough for me.

Music has old memories in it. Someday I'll return. But I bought crayons last night and put down ideas in drawings where I had to lable them on the back. I'm not alone when I share this. It got out of me. And I plan on working in therapy real soon. Thanks for posting guys.

Peace,

Painting, drawing, and now digital photography have been wonderful ways for me to release my inner communications. If nothing else, when fully absorbed, there is little to trouble me. Yes, I even enjoy crayons!

Play away!!!
