Getting Government to see the Light

Getting Government to see the Light

Hi Brothers:

I do not know if you remember that I was going to write to the Government of Ontario about the lack of assistance to men who are survivors like us. Well I got a letter from the Attorney General's Office and it was a sort of polite brush off. I wrote them back letting them know that they missed the point of my correspondence. Have not heard back on my last letter.

But I did get a letter from the Premier of Ontario thanking for bringing his attention to the matter and the Mens Project in Ottawa. The thanked me for sharing my comments and experiences. He closed by telling me that he had forwarded a copy to the Attorney General. I am very pleased that he wrote to me and just mabye this may start things to happen in Ontario. I will keep you all informed and Muldoon take heart the war is won by little battles carefully fought in strategic places. Now if we could only pressure the courts to have no limitations of time to call a perp to justice

Good luck my brother I am sure you will need all the luck and support in the world to open the eye's of the government. If their is anything that I or anyone on this board can do to help you all you need to do is ask.

Way to go Mike ,it may take time but the information is getting out there . Keep at it and soon those doors of Goverment will be wide open and the light of truth will be shining in. Best of luck. Muldoon

Hi Brothers: I thought that I would bring you up to date on my discussions with the Government of Ontario.
As you know I wrote to several people and the best reply I got was from my own MPP.

In our Ntions Capital there is a program for Men Called the Mens Project. The Web site is
https://www.themensproject.ca/ . This is a trial project funded by the Attorney General of Ontario

My MPP has written me and also sent me a copy of his letter to the Atorney General requesting that this project bve expanded to all of Ontario. Failing that he asked that the hot line be exptended to all of Ontario

He also offered to support my efforts and those of my other brothers here in Ontario.

I wrote back and sent him some information about this Website and what it meant to survivors. I also asked him to forward my earlier letter with what I had attached to it to all members of his caucus to add their voices. I guess that my preci version of my personal story is circulating in Government now. Ime a bit antsy about that but I can live with in. Because, he in fact is in the process of doing this and that makes me feel unbelievably good. Not so much for myself but for all my brothers everywhere especially the younger ones who are still living in the dark and have no where to turn. I guess there are others like me too who have buried it for a long time.

I am going to continue my efforts to get The Leader of the Opposition to respond to my also so that each and every member of the legislature knows about us and our stgruggle.

Muldoon was good enough to share with me the information that he used with his state legislature and I am forever gratefull to both he and Gary who helped in the writing of it.

Wuamei if you know of any other information I would be honoured if you could share it with me because I think that this might really start something happening.

What I am hoping is that it becomes a big issue here and it will be watched by other jurisdictions.

I am also asking that I be allowed to use the post that Muldoon started about How long it took you to seek therapy. So if you posted there I would appreciate you approval.

I am trying not to get too excited but it is hard not to.

Thank you for all your support my Brothers

That's fine by me Mike, I hope you have some success.

Dave

Mike keep up the hard work. Educating the people in power will take time put every effort is worth the time and energy we put into it. One by one people are begining to understand what CSA is all about. Mike when I made that post I told everyone that it would be used at the capital,so I think it's OK for you to use it also. Muldoon

An update. Here is a copy of a letter I have delivered today to my member of the provincial parliament and it has been indicated to me that what I am asking for will be provided. When is does happen I will make reference to it so that all may point it out to your own governments.
I want to thank everyone here for the help they
have provided so willingly
Here is the letter

Dear Mr. Sampson:

Your continued actions of you and your constituency staff are very encouraging to me.

Last week I visited your constituency office and dropped off some more material and to put a face to the name. I was hoping to meet you but I understand why you were not there. Having said that I would like to meet you personally to thank you.

For your added information I am attaching a copy of a letter I received from The Premier of Ontario for your files.

I have been in contact with Mr. Rick Goodwin, Executive Director of the Mens Project in Ottawa, who by the way, is also the Secretary of MaleSurvivor: National Organization against Male Sexual Victimization which is based in the U.S. and of which I am a member. He has graciously advised that he would speak to any group at Queens Park, as am I, to provide some insight into the terrible cost that this abuse causes and the need for victim services for males. As a matter of interest the incoming President of Male Survivor is the Director of the BC Society of Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse in British Columbia.

Would it be possible for you to provide such an audience? We thought that representatives of the Provincial Parliament from all political affiliations would benefit in that we might REALLY PUT A FACE TO MALE SEXUAL ABUSE, tell our story and how we all can work together to alleviate this suffering.

I realize that I am imposing a lot and it is not my intention to put you on the spot. It is just so refreshing to here someone like you willing to take the time to help and for that all survivors are grateful.

Yours truly,

Mike Church

Right on man. Society at large, as well as the government needs to wake up to our reality. Through internet communities like this and in our real communities, we survivors need to reach out to our brothers who are living the isolated struggle we all know and hate. If we realize how many of us there are and if we are there for each other, it will be harder to ignore us and marginalize us as has been done for too long. Is anyone out there trying to contact their government in the U.S.?

Mike, thanks again for all you are doing for your brother wolves. Excellent letter BTW, and I'm praying he gives that audience to you & to other male survivors.

AAAHHHWWWHHOOOOOOOOO!

Rick Goodwin, Executive Director of the Mens Project is a truly great guy. I have met him. He is also the secretary of Malesurvivor. I have heard nothing but good things about the project.

You might want to read my post on "My Story". It was in Ottawa (Major Hill Park) where I prostituted myself for some 3 years. See we have something in common. Ottawa.

It is good to hear from you.

I hope you find this site as beneficial as I have.

We are a band of wolves and we look after our own.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO
