Getting a job

Getting a job
Well, as I'm moving out and I don't want to create world war 3 in my house, I think it might be good to get a job.

My brother recommended placement services like Kelly and Chubb Institute. Anybody have any expierence with them? Anybody know of a good job for a survivor who has been working in computer repair for 10 years but has a focus/orginizational problem, also has a stuttering problem (when I get anxious) and a self esteem problem (who doesn't have those LOL )

Get your resume on Monsterboard if you don't already have it up there. At least where I live, there have been many part time/temp jobs around that have lasted a few days to a couple of weeks or even a few months. There is good and bad to these jobs. Sometimes after they check out my resume, they just sign me up for a job without really ever interviewing me (which I like because I hate interviews).

Realize that you are not the only one with all these things to overcome and it tends to be more prevalent than one would think. Just try to be yourself, prepare as much as you can and then try to relax before going on a interview. Sometimes I would tell myself just before going in for an interview that if I get this, that is great and if I don't, than there is something else out there for me. It helped take some of the undue pressure off of me that I put on myself.

Some of these temp agencies are great although I have never gotten too much from them. Most of the work I have ever gotten in computer support/repair has been through monsterboard or career builder. I still get calls every now and then even though I don't do computer work full time now.

And don't be afraid to ask your friends, and have your friends ask their friends and ask everyone you know if they know of any work available. Networking and contacts make for some of the best job opportunities.

Here's another job site that I've had good luck with in the past. But its stronger in some areas than others.

I've never used the agencies you mentioned, but I have used agencies before. They're terrific if they've got the clients. Good luck.

Jason,

I too have focus problems, they can be annoying to the extreme.

Maybe a good start using an agency, you can get back into some work and say you've got experience, it also gives you the chance to try different work, and find things you like to do, maybe you like working somewhere and they like you, so you ask them to give you a start sometime in the future when a job comes up.

Keeping focused certainly kept me out of the good jobs, but at least what I am doing is a job where I am never really bored, and if I get too tired, I can go home early, and that to me is worth more than money.

I hope you make it, to give yourself a break from home, I know how hard that can be

take care

I have been fortunate in not ever having had to go out and look for job. But I think that you have gotten some good advice here. I wish you good luck, and hope it will go well for you.
