well, we don't know for sure that it was gay--or how gay--or whether such a word could have any meaning in that society--but certainly there is a kind of gay man who carries the culture for society, and who experiments on the edges of society, and carries the society forward--I do believe that. We se such people in the arts, communication, philosophy and so on...
