nice bit of spin this is all becoming. perp pointing to the "perp what made me do it". Ugh. And it's all a diversion from the catastrophic folly in Iraq. There we go, Mark Folly.

Now I feel better.

It may be true that he's acting out or something, but what I dislike is the impression that it explains or dismisses responsibility for his behavior or that victims become vampires.

Halibut

It makes me sick that he will not accept responsibility for his actions. Like Halibut said he may be acting out but that is an action he has chosen to take. It pisses me off. I mean I choose to break the cycle of abuse and to seek healing and to recover and when I see crap like this it makes me mad.

Exactly my problem. It reeks of spin. There's a world to examine before leaping over to alcohol problems and past abuse. Like Mel Gibson, he's circumventing his culpability by crying victim. It's deplorable.

And now Foley's abuser has come forward and admitted "doing things", but he cannot remember exactly what he did because, the priest says, he was in a drug-induced haze at the time.

Foley blames it on alcohol and his abuser; his abuser blames it on drugs. Why can't we just say both of them are jerks and leave it at that?

Melliferal,

You are so right. It's all about Foley dancing past the fact that he's a pedophile, and his abuser doing the same thing.

And let's remember (not that it makes a lot of difference) that we are talking not about isolated one-off incidents, but about ingrained patterns of behavior that have been going on for years. Foley is drunk and hollering at the doors of the page dorm to be let in, and he gets a pass for that because he was abused years ago? What about all the guys here who were also abused and still stayed away from any such behavior?

Much love,
Larry

Agreed Larry.

Sorry but the "I did it cuz it was done to me" excuse is no excuse. As all of us here know very well.

Suppose it's how little is known in the "outside world" that makes me crazy. What's obvious to us survivors isn't even on the periphery of most folks' minds. And that's the work we have ahead of us beyond our own healing.

He is trying to use the "because i was abused card..."

It won't work here.
