It's hard to believe but I just read it a few minutes ago.

The US Supreme Court FINALLY threw out the Section

21.06 of the Texas Penal Code (the sodomy law)

which in effect made all homosexuals (and many

others) criminals.

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

How many rallies, how many fundraisers, how many,

many, many defeats over all these years?

Thank God for the human spirit in all of us that

refuses to be oppressed.

I am so elated--it's hard to describe what it has

been like to know that I was considered a criminal

by the state I support with my taxes.

I already felt like a criminal for "allowing"

myself to be abused! (BS)

This is such a sweet victory for so many people.

We never gave up and continued to struggle

against overwhelming odds.

I'm going to try to hang on to this feeling of

liberation that I got when I read the news about

Texas this morning.

Change is possible.

Good things can happen

I can be free.

vicious Georgia state law used as a tool

of hateful homophobes. Way to go!

Incidently, this wrecks not only Texas law but the laws of the last few remaining homophobic hold outs as well!

Guys I am so happy for you. Maybe the gates will really open now. I can only hope. All they have to do is look at Canada for marriage.

We had a Prime Minister once(Pierre Elliot Trudeau) who said when he was Justice Minister,
The Government Has no place in the bedrooms of the Nation.

It is one more step to peace guys.

Toronto City Hall is being kept open this weekend in order to handle the enormous volume of marriage certificates being applied for, especially by same-sex couples. I cried when I heard this story on television.

However, Canada has given all the rights of marriage to same-sex common-law couples for some time now, so the matter of "marriage" is largely symbolic.

A few days ago, an openly gay lawyer (and gay rights activist) was named to the Supreme Court of Canada.

And it seems likely that the Canadian government will retroactively give pensions to survivors of same-sex commonlaw relationships, where a partner died after 1984.

It has all happened so unbelievably quickly; it feels like the Berlin wall falling.
 
Brothers,

I do hope that this is a sign of the times for equal rights for gay and lesbian couples. I will never endstand why people hate one another because of their skin, race, sexual preffence, etc.... In the end we are all human and we are brothers and sisters. So lets just lvoe each other for who we are.

Gay Partners to Get
'Married Rights'


MINISTERS are putting the finishing touches to revolutionary reforms which will give gays and lesbians the same legal rights as married couples for the first time.

New civil partnerships are expected to give homosexual couples pension and property rights, providing they sign an official registration document.

The radical moves will give next of kin rights in hospitals, allow gays to benefit from a dead partner's pension and exempt them from inheritance tax on a partner's home.

The paper is not expected to use the term "gay marriage".

But the civil partnerships are likely to be as close to a marriage contract as possible.

It is thought partners will even be able to dissolve the agreement, in a form of "divorce".

It has been reported that, contrary to predictions, gay couples will not have to spend a prescribed amount of time living together before becoming eligible to sign the new contracts.

Chief executive of gay rights group Stonewall, Ben Summerskill, said: "We are delighted that a long overdue step is being taken by the government.

"Hundreds of thousands of gay people are in stable, long-term relationships but still don't have the same rights as many others.

"It's not just social status that matters, like the right to visit each other in hospital, but the right to share a partner's pension, for example - which is something available to every heterosexual."

He went on: "We hope that Parliamentary time will be made in the next session for the Bill. Every day's delay is a very real human tragedy for individuals all around the country."
