Michael,
My T is a woman and as my perp was a male, for me theres no way I could cope with a male therapist. She has many clients male and female and specialises in CSA so I dont feel she lacks anything other than if she were perhaps a male herself and had been abused herself. That then puts her into the league of Therapists who have been abused themselves. If thats the criteria for an effective counsellor then I think the list of qualified Ts would be greatly reduced.
I know many of the guys here who have female Ts and male Ts and have had both over the years. Conversely, I know for female victims there are many Ts who are male. I dont think the gender of the T (be it the same or opposite of the victim) is the contributing factor) in their effectiveness. It comes down to the ability of the therapist and how well the patient gels with the therapist.
