I know, excersize used to be about as inviting to me as having a car battery hooked up to my brain, but it's goodif you stick with it. exercize not only make you feel good, it helps you work out your stress and agression, promotes better sleep, builds self disipline, it helps with low self esteem and body image, makes you more confident, makes you feel more confident of your sexuality.

A few rules though:
1 Dont over do it. Pushing yourself too hard can be worse than not doing it at all.
2 Be persistant. You have to excersize regularly to feel it's results. If you miss a day, then just work a little harder the next couple times.( but remember #1)
3 dont be ashamed of yourself. You have plenty to feel proud of, because you are trying to make yourself a better person. Don't concentrate on the results of the excersize, concentrate on the exercize itself. Don't critisize yourself for not doing enough, not pushing too hard, or because your body isn't perfect.

You can do most types of excersize without weights for a while. Aerobic excersise is easy, you can jog, bike, walk fast, spar (mock fight) with boxing or karate, do jumping jacks, whatever. This is the most important kind overall. Prevents heart risk, stimulates endorphines, (feel good body chemicals) and burns excess fat. It is better to do this kind of excersize before lifting weights or doing any sort of resistance training. It is also good to do it right after as well, because you'll fell less sore. Calistnics (stretching) are also a good complement to aerobic excersize, and these will make you more limber and promote calm. Some kind of calistenics are rolling your head back and forth very slowly streching, touching your toes while standing straight up, sitting with your feet touching in front of your lap while pushing down with your knees (kindve lke the splits), raising your leg straight away from your body and resting it on a surface while you touch it with the tips of your fingers, and taking a stick or broom and holding it behind your back with both hands. Resistance training is good for releasing frustration. Some types you can do at home are push ups (keep you back straight, keep your hands shoulder width apart. you can either use your toes or your knees, whichever you feel you can do with out overexserting yourself. If you want, you can for a diamond with your hands at the center of you chest, which makes them harder, or you spread your arms apart, which make them easier.), leg squats (slowly moving as if you were sitting down back and forth) , crunches (like a sit up, except you dont move all the way up, you just lift yourself at a 30 degree angle and go back. Make ure to keep your head and back straight, and don't use your back muscles. You should put your hands either on the top of your head, or on your abdomen.)

When doing resistance training, you need to go slowly, or you wont get as much out of it. You also need to do whats called full extension, which means you never let your muscles tottally extend or contract, and you go just as slowly on the way back, effectively doing it twice every time.

Well thats it, hope it helps. Dont get discouraged, sometimes i go for weeks without exersizing because im too depressed. Just tak it easy and respect yourself.

I have heard about the effect of excersise for a long time and this year I have been doing more and more begin the reaping the positive effects.

For the past 4 months I have taken up hiking with a couple of close buddies. At first it was very slow going, However now we are doing great. Every Sunday we go for a Hike from 6 to 16 Miles. We have recieved so much out of it from a physical and emotional standoint. We are scheduled to climb Mt. Whitney in late August. A wonderful two day trip to get out of the city and out of my small little world.

I look forward to our hikes and because I am not alone it is a great way to get to know my friends in a greater way. On Mermorial day we will be climbing Mt. Baldy here in Southern California.

The first step for me was to just get started. I don't always feel like getting out, much easier to pull the covers over my eyes and let the world go by, but when I do get out boy do I feel better afterwards.

As it happens I just came back from a nice little walk with my dog.

Thanks for the post

:)

Just wanted to say that I can particularly recommend exercise. I dug-out my Bullworker a few weeks ago, and have been using it daily ever since. I also bought one of those Ab-toners, so that I can trim my waistline.

I 've just turned 40 this week, and am only now really starting to deal with the abuse that was done to me. The exercise equipment helps me to let off steam, and it's doing me some good as well.

Best wishes to all, and a good weekend.

I have not been exercizing regularly, for a while yes then I quit. I need something to help out. I also gained 15 lbs in the last 3-4 months. Thanks for the tips.

Found this post on a dusty shelf and thought it should be revived for our 2011 road to health and happiness!
What d'ya say? Anyone else on board?

From my point of view exercise is better than drugs. The best way to feel happy. It is more effective if you stick to a program.

I find walking to be not only great exercise but it gives me time to think, and clear out my head. I like to hike but there is nowhere around here to hike. The trails are filled with rattlers and cottonmouths.

I hear ya. I'm not fond of poison kisses from a serpent's forked tongue.

You're right about walking, and it's the least injurious exercise. I've taken up bicycling when it is possible for any errands within 3 miles of my home. A "run to the store" for a half gallon of milk has turned into a nice getaway break with exercise, a little fresh air, and a few minutes alone to clear my thoughts. Funny, that all my pants have become loose in the waste.

WriterKeith,
Sounds like a great idea. I started walking for exercise about 9 months ago. I have always walked our dogs regularly but that is not enough like exercise. If anyone in south central Pa would like to start a walking group let me know.

I'm an avid walker. Have been since childhood and just love it. Along with a daily walk when it isn't below 40 degs F, I do bodybuilding with free weights.

I agree with WriterKeith. Wanna lose weight? Just walk like you mean it.
