I was wondeing if anyone had any insight in regard to exercise? I am tying to increase my activity level and was wondering if anyone find this helpful? Would you recommend specific thing?

Yes, no matter the stress level, exercise helps the mind and the body. Especially in the winter. Either at home or at a club, whatever works. Cardiovascular is the best all around exercise. Lots out there to read on it.

Jaay,

I would recommend swimming, unless that is triggering for you. I find it very relaxing and I can just lose myself and swim lap after lap. I haven't done this in awhile, and I miss it.

Another good one is squash or racketball, because of all the sudden moves required to play - very good for the concentration as well.

I used to run a lot, but I think there is a lot of doubt about that now because of the risk of damage to the knees.

JAAY:
Ah a topic that is near and dear to me. Four years ago I joined a health club with the single purpose of getting the body back that I thought got me in trouble as a teenager. I was 16 215lbs and as hard as a rock. I was a farm kid from Alberta Canada (beef ranch).

Exercise to me has been a real godsend. As a matter of fact I am on the way to being certified as a personal trainer through the American Council of Exercise. In 4 years I have gone from 168 lbs and 25% body fat to 197 and 12% body fat. I am 64 years old.

It has given me a huge increase is sense of self. But exercise alone is just a part of it. It is to arrive at total wellness. That includes diet and rest.

Optimum fitness is a combination of flexibility, areobic capacity and physical strength. They go hand in glove. it involves stretching, strength training and cardio workouts. But to optimize it you must also eat properly. WWW.Mayoclinic.com has a great diet program.

But getting back to what you asked I must say that done properly can be nothing but good for you. If you feel healthy and fit and see yourself in that life it helps you be emitionally fit. And that my friend is a huge boost in dealing with what we all do here. I would recommend it for anyone who is physically able to do it. It does not matter at what level you start because in the end you will see definite results. It took me a year to see a difference. That is why most give up. They expect immediate results. But the key is perserverence. That also applies to moving from a surviving victim of SA to the person you were meant to be.

Even if it is just getting into a pool and doing mild exercising. It is a start. It is also a life long descision about how you are going to physically live. You can even do it at home.

If you go to MensHealth dot com there are huge ideas there for you. I recommend Mens Health because it does not preach steroid use as others do.

If you are getting started and are not in the best of shape make damned sure that you go easy on yourself. No pain no gain is pure bullshit. If there is pain ease up. Ache yes but not pain.

Damn I do ramble on.

I'm taking yoga at a community college which has really allowed my body to move out of its shell and lose some of its tension
