I found this article regarding the suppression of emotions to be very interesting: https://www.innerself.com/Behavior_Modification/sky_michael_02292.htm

May be worth reading, especially if you tend to deal with CSA through emotional suppression / somatization, like I do.

Excellent article! I can offer anecdotal confirmation of how damaging and strenuous it is to "stuff it" for many years. Despite the terrifying eruption of flashbacks after 35 years, I felt a tremendous relief that I no longer had to fight to keep that door shut. Peace!

John has stated, I must agree, "Excellent Article!!!"

I also agree that keeping this stuff trapped inside, so to speak, is incredibly damaging and can (at least for me it did) lead to consequences that are very scary and painful and also difficult to deal with in that of themselves, such as Nightmares and Flashbacks!

Although I joined MS in 2003, I think that first year I made about 10 posts and then the following year about 15 posts and it wasn't until I finally caved and found a great therapist that I was able to open up more about the types of things that had happened to me. That is mainly because of this web site. I accredit MS and for the ppl here at that time urging me to find a therapist and beginning this journey and so I did and in 2005, that is when I really began to open up about it all, and despite what I had previously thought, It did NOT kill me. Actually, it did the exact opposite, and I gradually began to feel better and realized that not only was I not alone but there were many ppl willing to support me and for that I am truly GRATEFUL!!!!!

sorry, I got a little off topic, but it was because I learned to begin to express what I was truly feeling, instead of keeping it all locked away, I think that saved my life.

sincerely,
Logan

No need to apologize, Logan. Unleashing "it" inside, while easier said than done, has improved both my physical and mental situations, and I'm hopeful that it'll continue to do so.

It's hard, and upsetting, and seems never-ending, but it's worth it.
