Has anyone had experience going through the EMDR process? I am investigating trying this to help with my own abuse issues (I'm in the process of discovering some repressed physical and psychological abuse memories these days - Damn - no wonder I am so compelled (and some days obsessed with) being so supportive to those dealing with abuse).

I know this is not the site to discuss female survivors of physical and psychological abuse but since I've got a track record here and y'all have been so helpful and supportive on just about everything else, and there are some similiarities among the effects of abuse (who knew I too was afraid of intimacy??), surviving abuse, working through therapy, I was just wondering if any of you fine folks or your significant others have worked through the EMDR "experience" and what happened, etc.

Please private msg. me to keep this site for SA discussions. We can even move off this site to sending private email if you wish to do so.

Thanks.

I know it's something that's been discussed here often, but a search only shows one topic for some reason.

But Ken replied to that topic with this -

It is not for everybody, nor is it a miracle cure. I've used it with a number of survivors and it has done some pretty good stuff with trauma victims. With severe anxiety, there may need to be some work to reduce the anxiety and get the person able to self-regulate (i.e., calm down with breathing, calm scene, etc.) However, I'm really not that personally familiar with using it for anxiety disorders. I got a protocol of using it with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder for a guy I've been seeing for almost a year. He still can't relax enough to effectively try it for the ocd.

Perhaps some of the guys with better memories can remember where the other topics are.
