Elite Prep School Student Gets 1 Year In Jail For Sexual Assault Owen Labrie was an 18 year old senior at the elite St Pauls Prep school, when he took part in an exercise called the "Senior Salute" in which senior boys compete to see which could have sex with the most underclass girls. One of his targets was a 15 year old freshman girl. They had an encounter after which he was charged with rape and aggravated sexual assault. After a lengthy trial he was acquitted of those charges, but was found guilty of one felony count of using the internet to lure a minor to have a sexual encounter. In other words, he texted her to make arrangements to meet for sex. As a result he will serve a year in prison, 5 years of parole, and lifetime status as a registered sex offender. Harvard has revoked his admission and his scholarship to be a divinity student.

Was this consensual sex between teenagers as the defense stated? Is this young man a sexual predator? Is this a fair punishment for what may have just been poor judgment on the part of a horney teenage boy?

Although he may have raped the girl... I don't know, I wasn't there.

This whole senior salute thing is disgusting though. At 18 you may be a horny, older teenager, but that doesn't mean you don't know that it is illegal, morally wrong, and a set up to rape...

I think 1 year jail is to short, I'm not sure what to think of the sex offender register.. If he can keep it a secret as long as he doesn't apply for jobs with children it's not a big deal I guess, but otherwise it pretty much ruins his entire future.
Is that his own fault? Yes... Is it to harsh? I don't know. I don't know the situation well enough nor how he will behave in the future.
