Divorce??

Hello everyone. Well my husband and I are separated again. This last Sunday I asked him if he wanted a divorce. He said yes, of course. So I typed a rough draft of what and how we would divide our assets. Of course he wants to pay everything for me; the mortgage, car payment, auto ins., life ins., medical ins. etc. Because it is all his fault. On Monday I was ready to contact the paralegal; since we were in agreement with everything. But then I had second thoughts. I am ready for the divorce but got to thinking. "He is the one who wants out, so why should I be the once to make all the preparations. Shouldn't he be the one that should be filing for the divorce??? Not me?"
Any thoughts??? Suggestions??

Hi there,
If you are ready for the divorce, then what does it matter who makes all the preparations?

Having said that, when my husband and I got to that point, I told him that he had to take care of all the details, and send me the papers to sign (kinda what he is doing to you). We didn't really have that much to divide up, and what we had, we had already done it.
Looking back, I think I made him do it because I wasn't ready to end the marriage, but saw no choice (he cheated on me and was living with the woman).

I don't really know your history (still pretty new here), but I think he should be involved in this - maybe he thinks his offer to pay for everything is his contribution?

A difficult question. I think divorce is hard enough - even if you are ready.

Ginny,

IF you're ready for the divorce then do it. It's empowering, sad, but empowering. You've tried to work with your husband for years to no avail, which means he's been calling the shots. Now it's time for you. Again, I say IF you are truly ready.

Once it's done, you can move on with your life. If he couldn't/wouldn't work to save your marriage, why would you want to wait and give him the control over this? Divorce can be smooth or ugly. No matter which way it goes, it's emotionally draining. I did it myself and I work with it every day, I for one would not want to take a back seat.

Just my two cents.

ROCK ON.......Trish
