Creatine Supplements and Memory

I've been taking 3g of creatine daily for some time but lately I've upped that to between 6g and 12g daily. Originally I took it because I exercise daily but after reading how it can improve brain function I thought I might get a benefit from a higher dose.

It seems to really be improving my memory. Not that I was getting senile but I can much more easily recall details and feelings from back in my childhood. I also have less difficulty remembering names which was an issue that seemed to be getting worse as I aged. I've never been good with names and at 78 years old I need all the help I can get. There is no doubt to me that my mind is much clearer, sharper and quicker than it was several years ago. Another benefit is that my workouts have improved since the increased dosage. I don't know if it's also related but I had been unsuccessful at fasting. Now I have no difficulty doing 16 and 24 hour fasts.

The downside is that some of the things from my childhood that I now can remember aren't all that pleasant. It is amazing though how I can now recall such vivid detail and experience the physical effects from when I was between eight and fourteen years old. So far it has been a positive experience overall but not without some uncomfortable memories.

Interesting. I was also taking creatine supplements at the same time I started really going through a heavy recall period. Lots of little details for me as well - especially body memories. Thanks for sharing this!

Any bad side effects to creatine? Is it safe to take?
I'm not a doctor but it has been a safe supplement for distance runners, cyclists, bodybuilders and other athletes for many years. Like anything it can be over done but when used within safe limits it isn't anything to worry about.

It's great to hear how much the increased dosage is helping you, especially with names, that’s always been a struggle for me too. I take creatine daily, but I’ve also been using Mind Lab Pro to help with overall cognitive function and memory. It’s how I feel my best and most alert, especially when I’m trying to stay productive. It seems like combining these types of supplements really helps keep everything functioning at a higher level as we age.

I just talked about creating with a radiologist last week and she also said that studies show that creatine supplementation showed to reduce risk of dementia
