Could we speak?

Could we speak?

I begin to know you; though some secrets remain hidden

Even from one such as me.

I was before, remember then? Before time struck us down

If we met, today perhaps, an hour maybe less

If by some tear in time we both could meet,

Would you know me? Could you help at all?

You know I always seemed to fall

To places no one wants to go.

It seems it fell upon me then

To guard, to swear, and somehow end

up Holding Fast the secrets for all time.

And with them all I filled a vault, set the time lock then for never,

But secrets cut the steel with ease with torches of acetylene

And adding heat to lies that burned, to touch that makes my stomach turn

This truth that time cannot contain continues even now to claim its vengeance

On a boy now turned a man.

It seems it fell upon me then
To guard, to swear, and somehow end
up Holding Fast the secrets for all time.
What a great poem this is...
It's fantastic how it can be about a man speaking to the little boy within
or even talking to someone else who shares the same experiences.
