In the discussion of a contribution to the poetry forum Shadowkid asks a very important question:

I guess my question is, how did such cool flowers grow from the rotten seeds our abusers planted in our hearts?
How indeed? My own answer would be that through all the hell we were devastated but never broken. We were still able to see right from wrong, even though in many cases that vision may have been blurred from time to time.

Whatever the reason, let's be sure we celebrate this for what it is: on the one hand, our own personal victory even before our recovery begins, and on the other, an incredible proof of how tough and resiliant the spirit of a child can be.

Any other thoughts? And thanks Shadow for getting me thinking about this one.

Much love,
Larry

I think that the abuse made our convictions to be nothing like our abusers so strong that it made us the good, compationate men we are today. It is quite possibly the only good thing we obtained from the horrible acts that were committed agianst us.

I think of the philosopher's stone when I read this. According to alchemists, the philosopher's stone transmutes lead into gold. If you ask me, it has an internal and spiritual interpretation instead of a purely physical one. Lead, our wounds, pain, and afflictions, are miraculously converted into gold--love, compassion, and peace.

How? If I want to make gold, I must know what the rule for making gold is. This is called the Golden Rule. When I choose to hurt others I hurt myself instead. Once I grasp this and know it in the depth of my being I am free to love others. As I begin to love others I begin to love myself too. It works both ways.

Jesse,

I really like that analogy. Thanks, Bro.

Lots of love,

This flower grew because of all the shit he was fed for so many years.

Now that flower has long roots and can drink clean water for a change and really bloom.

A true flower has grown from natures seed.
Not a hybrid which grows for one season, but one that has the capacity to grow on and on forever.
