Hi Toni, is that Oahu, Hawaii. I was stationed on a submarine out there. The navy would be one place I would check out, I bet if you get in touch with the public relations officers for the navy base and the submarine base, they would be glad to set up some tours for him and friends. The reason I say friends, is he may start to become concerned if it is always just for him. Also try the air force, maybe get to see a fighter jet up close.
Does he know how to swim? Every kid in Hawaii has got to know how to swim & snorkel! Tell him if he learns his lessons real good you have a surprise for him. That being a trip to Hanauma Bay the state underwater sea park, just on the other side of diamondhead. You can tell him all about diamondhead as you pass, about how it is a dead volcano, talk about lava, moulted rock, how hot it is etc. Somewhere along the way there is a spot called the toilet bowl, if I remember right it is a lava tube that connects to the sea, and due to the wave action the water goes in and out of the bowl.
Hanauma Bay , the cool thing about this place is it is very safe for beginners, they have a shark net. the reefs block the waves so he can just enjoy paddling around and looking at the fish. Fish, they have a fish there called a parrot fish they come in all the colors of the rainbow, and no two fish have the same pattern. Now is the time to ask him if he would like to feed the fish! When he says yes, that's when you get the two loaves of bread. Oh I forgot to mention them, parrot fish love bread, and will eat out of your hand!.
