I think that the fault is with the Boy Scouts. I never really heard them defend the BSA showing the good that they do today and did in the past. I know that I started the BSA in the '60s because it was all the rage, and everyone thought only good things about it. Basically it was great for kids and much better than the life I was pulled into.
Obviously. we cannot ignore any harm done to kids by an organization. But why not pump up the image of the BSA and not just let the bad come out. The bad news is free to disseminate the shit that was or is being done with BSA leaders over all forms of media. I think it's extremely important that the BSA has to sell itself as beneficial for boys and their families. Unfortunately, they have to spend money telling people all the great things about being a Boy Scout. I was amazed at the size of the Jamboree in Europe. I read more about Boy Scouts in Europe and the only thing I read about Boy Scouts here is just bad shit which is mostly old shit that gets chewed on over and over, year after year.
this is true but all we hear in the news is the shit that goes on. I have never come across a plug for the BSA in years, probably more years that I know of. Show some photos of a Jamboree here in the US for all the US parents to see what goes on. When I see a tent I don't see Boy Scouts I see some guy crawling in naked next to naked me for his turn to tell me how beautiful I am while playing with my toys, etc. etc. (this never happened to me in the Boy Scouts. It happened in other settings.) The BSA has to make me think of a tent as a BSA tent and not the tents that I was hustled in and serviced a revolving door of customers for the summer.
It's great to hear a story like this and it came with an apology, too. I didn't send my kids to the BSA because I felt that I could not protect them and the BSA did not have a very good history of protecting kids. I would imagine that most kids are successful in the BSA. the trick is to get guys like me to take a look to see if the BSA will do good for my kids.
IDK if any amount of telling the public how great the BSA is would have changed my destiny. My start in this world at age two had already redirected my future even before I could even say "Cubs".
Sweet
yeah!!!
Peace Out
