Are there groups, forums, resources that are specifically for those who have endured events during Boy Scouts? It seems like everything is so confidential about events, people, locations etc. It feels like the only action right now is the judges, lawyers and insurance companies working out their financial gains or losses at the (emotional) expense of the survivors.

The longer this litigation goes on the more disappointed I am -
Are there others who have these experiences?

I have not experienced this abuse myself, but there is a group called Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse- SCSA, several of the members have experienced abuse in the scouts. They may have more information about resources. They also have a support group meeting for men Saturday afternoons.

My cub scout leader was more of a father figure than my biological father. I wish I had told him what my father was doing to me.

Due to my positive experience in scouting I became a leader for 30 years. It was only due to health issues that I had to hang up my woggle. I know I have had a positive influence on many 2000 + members as I had many a letter as they became parents themselves had there son's and daughters so second generation.

I gained a number of awards but the biggest one was a red carpet event and won the community award for my time in scouting and won it due to being put forward by the parents and children.

I only have positive memories of my time in scouting as a cub scout and then leader. Not all scout leaders abuse there members and having experienced what I did as a child I was a little over protective. I did report one child who I was concerned about and I felt he was at RISC at home but had to go through the right channels and wasn't told of the outcome but he didn't return after reporting.

It was probably the first year or so that I could be a Boy Scout. The scout troop was in my grade school lunchroom. It was verbal abuse not physical in any way. I think that he knew what was going on with me. When I told papasan what happened he took me out and I never went back. But looking back now at my past and what was going on with me I was definitely not Boy Scout material. I was never told why I was taken out because of what I told papasan. I forget exactly what the scout leader told me, but it seems that he knew what was going on in my pants.

It's good to hear something very positive about your experiences in scouting and about scouting in general

I just have to say thank you very much for making a positive experience for so many kids. That's really great to hear something nice done for kids. It's so important. No kid should ever find himself in any kind of story we read here on MS.

I have never been able to be close to children, even my own. When I'm in the city walking around in my old haunts and see kids having a great time playing ball in the same playground where me and my friends played stickball years ago. The truant officer is standing on the other side of the chain-link fence. He's looking over all the kids playing when they should be in school. He knows that he can't touch us. I remember him looking at me and I picked up my T-shirt and showed him my chest and belly. He smiled at me, shook his head, and then continued walking. I was only 12-13 and I shouldn't have done what I did, it still bothers me today, but I knew what I was doing - he couldn't touch me, because I was off limits. Sad - really sad. I'd better stop here it's not good to think that way.

Peace Out ✌️🫂🤟

Agreed.

I’m a scout leader and I’m always very cautious when it comes to mentioning scouting because there has been so much abuse in its past (and let’s be realistic - there is certainly some in the the present day).

I’ve seen plenty of action taken in the training and organization to mitigate the risks, some good training and process has been developed. Humans are humans whether it be in scouting, the church, or community - we cannot let the bad actors overshadow the good that has been accomplished, but we cannot ignore them either, and we cannot ignore the harm that has been done, the people that have been hurt.

I totally agree we have a bad name as leader's thanks to the few that take advantage of children. I was at a meeting held at the local pub and in uniform when a bloke came in and said OH it's a kiddy fiddler's meeting. My district commissioner who was there led him out of the room. Telling him he had the wrong idea as to leaders.

I did see him in the village some weeks later and apologised to me saying he was drunk at the time and now knows the good I do for the children in the area and keeps them of the streets and occupied with life skills. He had spoken to some parents who put him straight. As an apology he made a favourable donation to my group.

People are to quick to judge and the majority of leader's are good people doing good for Children but this will never change unfortunately. The safeguarding and child protection is so height now that the cases are more historical.

This is good to hear.

I think that the fault is with the Boy Scouts. I never really heard them defend the BSA showing the good that they do today and did in the past. I know that I started the BSA in the '60s because it was all the rage, and everyone thought only good things about it. Basically it was great for kids and much better than the life I was pulled into.

but we cannot ignore them either, and we cannot ignore the harm that has been done, the people that have been hurt.
Obviously. we cannot ignore any harm done to kids by an organization. But why not pump up the image of the BSA and not just let the bad come out. The bad news is free to disseminate the shit that was or is being done with BSA leaders over all forms of media. I think it's extremely important that the BSA has to sell itself as beneficial for boys and their families. Unfortunately, they have to spend money telling people all the great things about being a Boy Scout. I was amazed at the size of the Jamboree in Europe. I read more about Boy Scouts in Europe and the only thing I read about Boy Scouts here is just bad shit which is mostly old shit that gets chewed on over and over, year after year.

this is true but all we hear in the news is the shit that goes on. I have never come across a plug for the BSA in years, probably more years that I know of. Show some photos of a Jamboree here in the US for all the US parents to see what goes on. When I see a tent I don't see Boy Scouts I see some guy crawling in naked next to naked me for his turn to tell me how beautiful I am while playing with my toys, etc. etc. (this never happened to me in the Boy Scouts. It happened in other settings.) The BSA has to make me think of a tent as a BSA tent and not the tents that I was hustled in and serviced a revolving door of customers for the summer.

It's great to hear a story like this and it came with an apology, too. I didn't send my kids to the BSA because I felt that I could not protect them and the BSA did not have a very good history of protecting kids. I would imagine that most kids are successful in the BSA. the trick is to get guys like me to take a look to see if the BSA will do good for my kids.

IDK if any amount of telling the public how great the BSA is would have changed my destiny. My start in this world at age two had already redirected my future even before I could even say "Cubs".

As an apology he made a favourable donation to my group.
Sweet 🫂

This is good to hear.
yeah!!!

Peace Out✌️🫂🤟

I have received letter's and verbal thanks of my ex members who are now teenagers adults or parents themselves and I did have second generation in my group. I received a number of letters thanking me for what I did for them and it was due to there time in my group it has made them who they are today.

From the start I said if I helped just ONE member I would be happy but did more than that and very rewarding when told that.

Your probably the first leader that I ever talked with. I didn't get a chance with mine. I don't know what he knew or how he would know anything about me. He told me something like "You don't live at home but at other people's houses." He said something about my parents getting rid of me and my stepparents not wanting me. Also, something about being naked but I don't remember.

I get it there are good folks that are in the scouting organization,
true

the issue with the scouts was much the same as the catholic church
True

As far as new precautions to be better, predators will find their ways
If the life found me at two years old and stayed with me till I was 24 (with a vacation in the USAF) they'll always find a way in. I saw many kids come into my apartment (with three other working kids), get broken in then sold to some pimp. After a couple of weeks, he sold and went to work for someone else. I was also helping to break in a couple of 10-year-olds. They were most probably destined to be sold to one of the oil-rich countries where they loved young, white, blonde-haired kids.

decision to keep thing quiet for one reason “ to protect their money and assets “ !
True the adults come first then the organization but nothing for the kids.

I was happy to see their art collection auctioned off last week. Peace
I am also. It's sad but they fucked up (a lot of kids)

Are you suggesting that the BSA goes out of business? That would mean the church also. I have no faith mainly because my best friend was being sold by one of the priests in his school. If there is one there has to be at least two, so they could brag to each other about their toy stores.

I forgot to mention that they have to do the best they can and if someone slip in find him fast. I'm sure it can be done. In the '60s it was a big thing that kids were going to. There will always be someone that is corrupt.

I think that the church is too big to fix

Not really trying to be mean but as a scout survivor you’re accounts of being a good scout, leader or whatever are of no consequence to scout survivors
If I may ask, what should be the direction to end this mess? Is there anything that can be done and by who?
