Articles on this site
Hi all:
I'm going to dump some of the less popular and unnecessary articles on the MaleSurvivor site. I've asked Board of Directors to review them and have gotten opinions about what is valuable and worth keeping, and which articles are not helpful or woefully out of date.

Since you are the many of the readers of these articles, your input is valuable. I'd like to get a list together of those which are good and helpful and those that need to be trashed.

Please post your picks and pans here. We will continue to solicit new articles from survivors and professionals, so if you have an idea to write something, please do so.

If you have a suggestion for an article, let me know as well and we will look for someone who can write it. For example, if you think we need something written for survivors about how the brain is affected by trauma, we can approach someone who has that background to write something for the website.

No deadline, but I'd like to begin as soon as possible and improve the content here.

Thanks,
Ken

Ken,

I have an idea. And I am a writer.

I think it would be helpful to have an article from a newbie. Who has been here a short time. To make anyone who reads it understand the confusion, the fear and the uncertaincy see the process. And know that they are normal in what they feel. Kind of a "Welcome, you belong here" type thing so they would realize they are not as different or weird as they think.

aybe an article about the possible side effects of SA, like PTSD, panic, anxiety, that sort of thing. I could have used that!

Great idea! That's exactly the kind of thing, or one kind of one thing, I'd like to see.

Something about the history of trauma treatment right up to the modern effort to include male survivors. Like a background on how the stereotypes (men aren't victimized, women don't abuse, survivors become abusers, etc) arose. I think it could be good information for the press, etc.

Thanks,

Joe

I agree, that to have articles, at least defining, some of the more common effects of the abuse, like the depression, PTSD, panic, DID, such things. Not for people to diagnose themself, but to maybe have better understanding what they are diagnosed as.

I hate tick box type questionnaires, because they never seem to have the questions that I want to answer (they are usually related to consumer products).

There is one suggestion that indicates it would be a good idea to post information that would assist new people at this site.

Would it be a good idea if people did send in suggestions as to what they found useful when they first came here? What sort of information they were looking for? What sort of fears they had? What sort of hopes they had when they discovered the site. What sort of responses they were given? Did they find hope? How long did it take them to find the courage to post themselves? Did anything put them off asking questions? What else could have helped them?

Yes ...it looks like a bloody tick box doesn't it!

The answers to these questions could be analysed & an introductory text to the site produced from the analysis.

Thinking again...Rik
