Anyone abused at Green Valley School, Orange City, FL ?

My SA happened at Green Valley School outside Orange City, Florida, in the summer of 1967.

The place was supposed to be a school for troubled kids but it was really a dumping ground for kids who were too much trouble to their parents.

The place was crazy - drugs, prostitution, spaced-out "teachers" that had sex with some of the kids and / or supplied them with dope - something out of a nightmare.

For me, the problem is that there are folk - and you can find their websites via a Google search - who think Green Valley was some sort of counter-cultural utopia. Either nobody knew, or they're not willing to acknowledge, what an insane place it was.

I'm looking for validation, from somebody else who was there.

I know the feeling of needing to know about others who were there, and I hope that this post brings you something you need in your recovery.

But your validation is in yourself, and in your voice, which spoke eloquently in Atlanta. You were heard, and witnessed -- and, I hope that began the validation journey for you.

Shy Bear, would you mind if we used this post to report the area our abuse took place so that we may find others? Or maybe we should open a new post, what ever you think. Your post just got me to thinking that I would like to know if anyone else from my area is here on MS.

My immediate thought is there may be safety issues that those of us early in recovery might not think about when posting "where it happened".

There's also a difference between where we were abused geographically (TX, TN, WV, Salt Lake City UT, Tampa FL, etc) and where we were abused when the place was a specific institution, like St. Sucn'n'Such's Catholic High in Podunk, AZ or Green Valley School in Orange City, FL.

Regardless, I like your idea, but lemme bounce it off the moderators first, OK ?

I know exactly how you feel, my boarding school was run by cruelty and abuse.
But when I look at the 'old boys website' I can barely contain my rage when I read the bullshit praise of teachers that I know inflicted cruelty, and in one case I'm 100% certain was a pedophile. I have serious suspicions, and some evidence, about at least three other teachers.
And don't get me started on the organised groups of older boys!

Perhaps I'm acting bitter and twisted? maybe some boys went there and had a wonderful time? I just can't imagine it though.

Funnily enough I'm going to meet up with a fellow pupil next week who I haven't seen since I was about 14yo. I know his sister very well, and by all accounts he's crazier than I've ever been. Should be interesting...........

I know your post was a long time ago , I just found it doing a search for green valley school .. I was there in the late 60s to early 70s ..Insane place ? Oh that doesn't come close to what that place was..
