I saw this film yesterday. It is a very powerful film about an abused, neglected boy who has social problems in his 20's in the Navy and is sent to a Navy psychologist (Denzel Washington) for evaluation.

I cried during this movie and waited for the house to clear out before I could leave. Be prepared and bring tissues.

I agree wholeheartedly. I just came back from seeing the movie. My wife and I sobbed openly. the theatre was almost empty at the matinee. One couple left in the middle of it. I advise not going alone, and make sure you bring someone with you, that you can process it with. I can't see how it won't be restimulating for anyone of us. It is a film about courage, recognition for that courage, and healing. It tore me up. The tears came from such a deep place that I am emotionally exausted that I'm on my way to bed early.

"It's a casting story that might one day inspire a biographical feature film itself. Newcomer Derek Luke, discovered working in the gift shop on the Sony Pictures lot, has nabbed the coveted lead role. After auditioning hundreds of actors for the role, producers chose Luke to play the title character based on the life of the film's writer Antwone Fisher, a former security guard on the Sony lot. Luke was first discovered by Fisher, now a working screenwriter, when Fisher dropped by the gift shop on the Sony lot where Luke has worked for nearly four years. Fisher then brought Luke to the attention of the film's producers — Washington, Randa Haines and Escape Artists' Todd Black — who met with him several times before making their final decision. Black and Washington then surprised Luke at the gift shop to offer him the role. (Hollywood Reporter)"

Guys That was the one things I wanted to do yesterday on my 53 Brithday. I was alone, my wife's out of town working so I was all ready to go but it wasn,t showing in any of the towns around here. That pissed me off no one had the guts to show it. I would had to drive 2 hours one way to see it ,maybe that was good that I didn.t see it alone.For sure I will have to go to the matinee. Maybe tomorrow after my T. Muldoon
 
I agree with all of you....don't see it alone...I did, it was tough.

I must say I am very glad that Denzel took this one on as his initial project as a director. The movie is outstanding! But as you all know be prepared to cry! I did and it's not something I can do very often.

On a different note...It would be great if Antwoine Fischer, Derek Luke or(who was fantastic at playing Antwoin's part) Denzel Washington would speak at the upcoming MaleSurvivor Conference...I know some attempts at contact with these individuals have been made..I truly hope one of them will be interested. :)

I know your posts are old guys, but I pulled this up, and I AGREE. My T gave it to me for homework, and my fiance and I went right after my session. I cried all the way through the movie. She had never seen me like that before, and I would not have been the same had she not been there.
That too was why my T thought my fiance go with me. It is truly how a man recovered only because so many cared for and about him.

I cried hard.
