a time to fight
I think it is time we fight the rhetoric. While I am not usually a policital pundit, I have learned much recently about how the government truly works.
Indeed, from talking with and engaging state leaders, it is true that, at least at the state government level (where very few people try to make their voices heard--relatively speaking compared to say the federal government), one can make a huge difference. E-mails are indeed read by staff and considered by them to be the voice of their constituents. Thus, I ask (for those who have time) to please contact your governor (see link below--it's a simple e-mail list), just to let them know that you are for the defense of the rights of homosexual persons.

Furthermore, we can write our US Senators and Congressman so that they can fight the hurtful anti-gay marriage amendment at the federal level (their e-mails can be obtained if you follow the links below).

The truth of the matter is that our government leaders sometimes do want to stand up for homosexual rights (particularly democratic leaders), but the problem is that they do not know whether their constituency (i.e. the voters of their state) will find their view acceptable.
I know we are all busy, but if we all do it, I think we can fight this anti-homosexual marriage rhetoric. Thank you and keep on surviving
