I want to ask the admin if we can start a scholarship in Jake's name -

I will make a significant initial donation - to start this -

if it is something you are willing to establish -

I miss him so much -

Admin - please contact me -
If you are good with this -

I then challeng all of you - in Jake's name - donate what you can - to provide for another survivor's healing - in a way that would make Jake proud -

"Jake's Scholarship"

I miss him

Mark:
MS gets many who cannot afford to join and we try to make accomodations for them, whether it be basic memberships to the org or for healing weekends (retreats). I think a scholarship fund in Jake's name would be an excellent idea.

It can be restricted to certain activities such as healing weekends or for basic memberships. If people want to make a donation for either of these, it would be great. Or, if they just want to support the costs for running this org, that would be fine as well.

We also have a legacy fund of money to generate revenue for operational expenses (a number of people contributed large amounts of money to set this up several years ago, including our recently returned board member who most do not know, Chuck Spence, who was in charge back then and I believe is back in charge.)

Anything to help the org help survivors is welcome.

Ken

Mark,

I was actually going to ask the board about that today! Thanks for raising the idea.

Ken, people would like to remember and honor Jake in various ways I guess. How about creating a fund in his name, but allow people to specify what their donations should be used for? If someone wants to donate $35.00 for a membership, fine, or donate to a ppol for retreat support or for running expenses of the organization, whatever.

I would be delighted to support this, even though I came here too late to know Jake. It is so moving to see how one person was able to rise above his abuse and help so many others in such an amazing way.

I've posted Larry's suggestion on the mod forum to see if we can get a mod to work with you on this. (Asked especially for a mod who is also on the BoD so we can get input from the treasurer and the fundraising committee).
Ken

this is good news - i have offered my suggestions to Brent Turpin -

I think depending on how much we raise -
it will fortify an existant fund -

or perhaps we can name a part of a fund or
rename a fund in jakes honor -

i really would like so much for there to be something of permanency for him -

this would be an awesome goal -

Mark

Ken is reacting to a PM I sent earlier today offering to help set this up. I know the BoD and mods have a lot of issues on their plate at the moment, and it would be unfortunate if this one simply joined the back of the queue. As it happens I do have experience in such things, Germany being the mother lode for scribbling and figuring out how to do something, so I have offered to help.

But I think it should be clear that the initial suggestion is Mark's and not mine.

Mark, yes, it would be great if there could be something of permanency here. Jake's life affected a lot of people here and they will carry that blessing for the rest of their lives. If that isn't permanent then I need to recheck my dictionary! :)

Love to all,
Larry

(edited because I at first missed the opportunity to get sarcastic about German bureaucracy, which no German civil servant - professor or otherwise - is allowed to do)

Mark, I think it is a great idea. I am glad you can make the donation, so I see what I can give too.

Jake touched me, and so many others, it is incredible to have known him, and I never knew a guy like this existed in the Universe.

Maybe God took him to a better life, he sure deserves it, but I am proud and honoured to have known him, and his family.

As Editor of our newsletter, MenSpeak Out (new issue forthcoming for members and on the website), I want to suggest that we do a major piece on Jake for the next issue, as part memoriam and part inspiration to all. I would need quotes from his postings, photos, etc. etc.

There seems to be considerable interest in developing a memorial scholorship fund in Jake's honor.

As to whether we will be able to establish a seperate and stand alone fund, that will depend entirely on how much is contributed.

However whether that becomes a reality or not I am confident that within our existing endowment fund we will be able to structure a fitting memorial.

Nathan, our webmaster, will have up and running shortly a donation page and instructions for donating via credit card and/or check and instructions concerning pledges and future donations.

I want to personally say how wonderful it is that so many here want to make personal sacrifices to see that Jake's life and contribution to MaleSurvivor and everyone here is honored in a longterm fashion.

At this point it would be much to premature to offer any assurances as to what we will be able to do as we will simply have to see what the response is, but you have my promise that I will do all I can to make sure that we do our best to make this happen.

Continue to support each other and most importantly do what Jake would want everyone to do...Grab on to life and learn to live with as much Joy as you can find....

all my best,
brent turpin

thanks brent

Just a note to say that the poems in memory of Jake are to be on the web shortly.

A woman I know is putting the pictures to the poems and they will be on artmagick.

I know that it will be a fitting tribute to his memory, and it will be read and identified as it should be by others who care.

I have also put them in my poetry journal, which is linked through to many other journals. 55 tears fell in silence is one of the journals I posted it in, as a tribute to Jake,

I think this is a great idea.

To make sure the funds donated are used as best can benefit survivors I am suggesting that donations be unrestricted as much as possible, only that they be used to help survivors with costs associated with Male Survivor activities, such as membership fee, retreat costs etc.

I have proposed to the Board that our Executive Committee finalize the outline of the scholarship fund and present it to the community on the Discussion Board.

I would strongly recommend that donations be earmarked for expenses associated with the cost of attending healing activities sponsored by MaleSurvivor. Any further limiting, earmarking of funds will be a great handicap to effective use of the money, in my opinion, and a bookkeeping nightmare.

Recommendations for worthy recipients can be made to the Mod staff who will then pass their consensus opinion on to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Funds could be available to anyone who is a member of the MaleSurvivor organization demonstrating some degree of financial need.

I would ask that the excellent input given here be taken in consideration by the Executive Committee for final decisions, so keep the input and the inspiration coming!

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors is made up of Murray Schane, President; Danny Fowler, Secretary; Brent Turpin, Treasurer; Ken Singer, past President-elect.

Thanks to everyone, Mark, Roadrunner, ste, Nathan and so many more for this great idea.

Regards,

I was mulling this thing over in my head, I suppose that is usual for me.

I have a jar that I put in small denomination coins for charity, I suppose we could all do this.
It keeps my pockets a bit lighter and it mounts up considerably over time.

Another idea I had, and bearing in mind I live in a different Country.

Here, we have trust funds available to many different things. The trust is usually set up by somebody who has died with wealth.

Each trust gives donations if asked for depending what the legacy was intended for. You can go into a library here and browse the CDs to see who supports what.

I suppose that idea has probably already been looked at, but any other ideas would be welcome, and maybe one day, we can have enough internet sites going with a donation banner to MS,

I thought it might be a good idea to pop this back up to the surface and ask how things are looking for the donation page.

dwf has an excellent point I think. If donations come in earmarked for very specific purposes, then everyone will have their own ideas about what they want to support and there will be a lot of little funds instead of one effective fund that can really do some good.

I would suggest just specifying that this fund is to help survivors in financial need with things like membership costs and retreats. Jake was forever helping people, and this would really honor his memory.

I will be making a contribution to the fund as soon as there is a means to do so.

Larry

i am with you - i am getting established in TO
but once i am up and running - this will be my target of my energies -

keep me posted too brent -

thanks

Hello all,

Thanks for bringing this back up.

The Executive Committee of the Board of Directors has been working very diligently on this project, making sure that it is done properly and in the spirit of recognition of Jakes memory.

We are currently waiting on the persons responsible for Jakes estate.

Otherwise we are all set to go!

Thanks again for all the helpful input and pledges of support.

We are eager to get started; we are now waiting for the final go ahead from Jakes people.

Hang on a bit longer!

Thanks,

Regards,

Just thought I would pop this back to the top again and ask if there is any news yet on the fund in Jake's name.

Larry

Everyone,

Sadly all I can say is what Danny said before.
We are eager to get started; we are now waiting for the final go ahead from Jakes people.

Hang on a bit longer!
We still do not have the go ahead to setup a fund in his name. I am hoping to hear back from them in a couple of days and lets keep our fingers crossed that it is a good ahead.

lots of love, Nathan
