ARIA Launches Not-for-Profit with A Night to Heal
New York, New York April 21, 2004 ARIA Awareness of Rape and Incest through Art, Inc. announced that its premiere Benefit, A Night to Heal, will take place on the evening of May 1st, 2004 at the French Institute, Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59th Street, New York, NY 10022.
A Night to Heal makes public the efforts of the budding not-for-profit, ARIA. ARIAs mission is to empower and heal survivors of sexual abuse by transforming internal suffering into works of art. ARIA lays a foundation of hope providing forums of self-expression while spreading awareness of sexual abuse and creating community among survivors. ARIA stands to break down the stigmatic barriers that inhibit healing; freeing survivors from their prisons of silence.
Gina C. Kim, Founder and Chair of ARIA, stated that A Night to Heal will be a one-of-a-kind evening of entertainment, camaraderie and awareness. No one will walk out the same and everyone will experience the pain of a survivor transformed into something extraordinarily beautiful. The goal for A Night to Heal is to raise $10,000 for the Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program at Mount Sinai Hospital (SAVI) in New York. SAVIs mission is to provide free and confidential counseling, advocacy, support and referral services to past and present survivors of rape, sexual assault, incest and domestic violence, their families and friends.
Some of the highlights of A Night to Heal include performances by Artichoke Dance Company, Donald DHaene, author of Fathers Touch, Dana Bach, an up and coming pop jazz female vocalist and Dr. Cindy Gratz of Sam Houston State University with her award-winning piece, After Images. Also included in the evening is a Silent Auction displaying a wide range of art including paintings, photography and jewelry.
A growing list of organizations has already signed up to help sponsor A Night to Heal, including Azimuth Trust, The Economist Group, Jason Paulson Designs, NYC Alliance against Sexual Assault, NY State Coalition against Sexual Assault, and RAINN.
