1980's and 1990's era media depicting abuse

Hi survivors,
Do you remember any particular tv shows or movies/media from the 1980s forward that depicts an abuse story? During the 1980s when I was going through my abuse, I remember seeing a "Very Special Episode" of Different Strokes where the 2 boys were abused by a bicycle shop owner. He showed them porn mags, videos and gave 1 of them pills. I have a female survivor friend who I speak with often and she remembers seeing a video in school. It was her moment of "oh my gosh, this video is about me, how did the teacher know to show this to me?" It hit her in her core. I shared the same sentiment.

interesting that you mention it sir. There is a particular movie that seems to come up for us over and over. Sling Blade. We suspect that maybe someone who doesn't have a similar past may not understand it for what it is. The movie is a slow burn and only at the very end does it subtly reveal what the protagonist has been through to make him the way he is. We usually avoid such things, but this one caught us off guard. don't know when it was made though.

For me it is a film called Kes, based on a book called A Kestrel for a Naive, the film came out in 1960, but at the age of 12 in 1980, this film sung to me from Billy Casper’s home life, relationship with is brother,er the PE teacher was spot on. I still can not do sports or go to the gym without that man appearing and humiliating me. I feel sick now just writing this.

Mine was in the 70’s. It was an episode of the Streets of San Francisco. I don’t remember much, I think I dissociated through it until the end. That scene is still so vivid in my mind even today. The cops found the two boys in the morning and only one was still alive. It was too close to reality for me to ever forget it.

One of my favorite movies is Antwone Fisher. I saw the film first then read the book. His story of counseling and healing is inspirational. The book has more details that are graphic. It was a tough read.
