Hello, my name is Jonathan Schmidt, I'm a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario Canada, I provide virtual services to residents of Ontario.
I've been a psychotherapist for about 20 years. I ran groups for and offered individual counselling to Male Survivors for over 10 years while working for a community counselling organization before going into private practice.
In my experience, I have learned that people make sense, even the rage, shame and anxiety. Trauma is not just about what happened to you, but what your nervous system did to help you survive. It's an honor for me to help men explore their experiences, developing compassion as they learn to be more present and feel safe, despite what was done to them. It can make sense for you to arrive at a place of happiness and healthier relationships.
I have somatic-trauma treatment training (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), and also integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) in my work-- we all have parts. I'm also a couple and family therapist. Many of my clients have found it helpful to invite their partner to a session as a guest, as they learn more about why they are the way they are, and new ways of coping.
